Research and development for the future of audio branding

INTEGRAL was a member of the international project team "ABC_DJ". The research project was funded by the European Union under the Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Program (Grant Agreement No.688122).

ABC_DJ stands for "Artist to Business to Business to Consumer Audio Branding System". It was a cooperation project of seven companies or institutions specialized in music from different European countries - from Germany to Italy and France to Spain. The project was managed by the Technical University of Berlin.

The aim of the project was to provide European creative agencies with outstanding information and tools for communication support. The project lasted three years, from January 2016 to December 2018. During that period extensive research was conducted to develop software for music distribution based on scientific findings. European music creators and independent labels as well as other multipliers were actively integrated into the value chain.

The result was the prototype of a 24/7 DJ for a target group adequate playout of music consisting of an audio branding tool (desktop application for visualization and communication of music), a playlist generator tool (desktop application for production, visualization and export of playlists) as well as a cockpit unit (in-store application for content provision, real-time monitoring and ongoing adaptation of already implemented in-store music systems).

The usability and market research studies conducted by INTEGRAL as part of the project provided an important contribution to the development of the tools and to a better understanding of how consumers perceive music.
